The Best Way to Wrap
Finding the right size bag for your gift

When wrapping your gift, design is very important, and so is size. You want your recipient to see your good taste and style as well as your thoughtfulness.
Material is also important as it provides the texture of the bag. A variety of materials can be chosen from the flexible to the stiff, light to heavy, smooth to fuzzy. The possibilities are endless. Handles may be made from the same material as the bag, but also may be cotton or nylon webbing for both strength and flexibility.
Gusset or no gusset
To picture how your bag will look on your gift, you should understand the construction. Some bags are simply sewn like a standard tote bag. There is no actual width, except what is taken from the height of the bag. A bag with a full gusset has a panel sewn in the side and the bottom. This is suitable for wider gifts and thick boxes. Gusseted bags also 'stand up' more like paper shopping bags do.

Material
Canvas is a common material for a bag, and comes in different weights. Some canvas is thick enough that it can even stand up by itself. Regular cotton and even flannel or velour can be used for gift bags. These tend to be much softer and will drape on the gift. Some cottons are very thin and lightweight so do note if it is recommended for use with tissue paper to fend off gift snoopers.
